GET MORE WITH A DRAKE
Accuracy. Repeatability. Uptime.

Drake machines are built to last. The use of premium materials ensures dependability and longevity regardless of your production schedule. Because we use linear motors instead of standard servo motors, you get more uptime and repeatable precision when grinding parts.

A standard servo motor produces rotary torque that must be converted to linear motion generally through the use of a ball screw. The conversion of rotary torque to linear motion results in the loss of both accuracy and precision. Drake uses linear motors with high-resolution scales on positioning axes, fully eliminating ball screw wear. This allows for multi-directional stiffness and low maintenance. While ball screws wear, Drakes keep going.

Advantages of linear motor drive system:

  • Linear motors are virtually maintenance free for the life of the machine
  • High speed axis travel with high acceleration and deceleration
  • Fast response due to direct coupling and fast motion controller
  • High accuracy and repeatability with linear glass scales
  • Direct drive (no couplings or belts means no back lash, windup or lost motion)
  • Efficient use of power due to little energy loss
  • Simplified mechanical design
  • No contact and thus no friction between the drive elements
  • High dynamic stiffness
